fitting
Replicast can fit the units for you on-site (fitting time around 3 hours) or we can give you the necessary, easy-to-follow instuctions for fitting yourself.
For the DIY enthusiast below is a set of SUGGESTED instructions.
1. Ensure all surfaces are sound and free from wallpaper, loose paintwork, dust and grease.
2. Mark the wall for the first course of brick tiles using a spirit level. We recommend if you are having a feature, e.g. an arch, you start with positioning this and then work up or down the wall.
Internal Fixing
3. Mix the adhesive which consists of a quarter bucket of water, a few drops of P.V.A. unibond, then mix in carlite bonding until a porridge like consistency is achieved.
External Fixing
4. Use external tile adhesive or alternatively mix your own adhesive as follows: a quarter bucket of water with four to five drops of P.V.A. unibond, then mix in sand and cement in 3:1 ratio leaving a workable mixture.
5. Apply the adhesive to the back of the tile and fix to the wall using a slight up and down movement.
6. The brick / stone tiles can be cut using a small angle grinder laying the tile on a thin bed of sand or plywood sheet.
7. Once tiles are fixed to the wall, the joints should be filled and pointed using a pointing trowel or a half round finish can be achieved using a jointing iron then taking off excess pointing mix with a pointing trowel. Coloured pointing mix can be purchased from Replicast or alternatively 3:1:1 sand/cement/lime mixture with plasticiser can be used to obtain a basic grey finish. Once pointing mixture has sufficiently set, brush down with a soft brush.
8. The completed wall should then be sealed using one part P.V.A. to approx 40 part water mixture. Alternatively, to achieve a glazed finish use 50% matt varnish, 50% turps mixture.
